Chapter 12: The Unraveling

The silence that followed Elena’s revelation was absolute. You could hear the faint hum of the overhead ventilation system and the distant sirens outside on the avenue. Marcus Vance leaned forward, peering through his reading glasses at the handwritten columns in the ledger. His face paled significantly as he recognized the initials and proprietary account numbers belonging to the company’s primary Swiss holdings.

“My God,” Marcus whispered, his hands trembling slightly as he touched the corner of the page. “Every quarter... every single audit report was doctored.”

“To the tune of forty-eight million dollars,” Elena added smoothly, her voice completely devoid of emotion, operating purely on clinical fact. “Funds intended for our regenerative medicine trials were funneled into private real estate acquisitions and personal margin calls. If the SEC or federal investigators had uncovered this during the upcoming merger without our intervention, every single member of this board would have faced criminal indictments for accessory to corporate fraud.”

The directors exchanged horrified glances. Several board members slumped back in their chairs, the realization washing over them that their own reputations, wealth, and freedom had been actively jeopardized by Arthur’s unchecked greed.

Julian leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest, his stern gaze observing the psychological breakdown of the room with quiet satisfaction. He didn't need to say a word; Elena was executing the takedown with surgical precision.

“What do you propose we do, Elena?” Marcus asked, his voice subdued, stripped of all corporate arrogance.

“We invoke Article Twelve of the corporate bylaws,” Elena replied instantly, sliding a second set of printed documents across the table. “Immediate termination of Arthur Sterling as Chief Executive Officer, a full structural audit overseen by an independent federal receiver, and the immediate reinstatement of the Vance family trust as primary majority stakeholder.”

Before Marcus could even pick up a pen to sign, the heavy glass doors at the back of the boardroom slammed open with a violent crash.

Arthur Sterling stood in the doorway. His tuxedo was completely ruined, his shirt collar stained with sweat and dust, his hair wild. He looked like a man who had walked through hell and back, yet his eyes burned with a maniacal, desperate fury as he locked eyes directly onto Elena.
