Chapter 14: The Open Gate**

Fifteen years after the gavel fell, the heavy steel doors of the federal penitentiary slid open with a metallic hum. Damon Vance stepped out into the crisp morning air, carrying only a small duffle bag containing his clothes and a worn wooden box packed with hundreds of drawings.

He was fifty years old. His physique remained strong, his posture commanding, but the cold, predatory intensity that once defined his presence was entirely gone, replaced by a deep, grounded tranquility.

Waiting across the gravel parking lot was a modest dark blue sedan. Agent Hayes, now retired with gray hair and a walking cane, leaned against the hood, holding a manila envelope.

"You served your time with honor, Vance," Hayes said, extending a hand. Damon took it, their grip firm and respectful. "Your parole conditions are cleared for out-of-state travel. The trust has been fully disbursed. She’s waiting for you."

"Thank you, Marcus. For everything," Damon said sincerely.

"Don't thank me," Hayes replied with a soft smile. "Thank the little girl with the crayons. She gave you a second life."
