Chapter 9: The Siege of Assets

The digital war room on the fifty-fifth floor of Sterling Enterprises hummed with the quiet fury of a dozen high-speed servers processing encrypted data streams. Massive curved monitors cast a pale blue luminescence over the faces of Thomas, Mei-ling, and David Chen. Outside the reinforced glass windows, the city lights blurred into a steady stream of nocturnal motion, mirroring the high-stakes chess match playing out across the global financial networks.
Arthur Sterling sat across the conference table, his demeanor a masterpiece of calm defiance. He had been escorted to the war room by security personnel not as a guest, but as a detained subject under internal investigation. Yet, he wore a tailored cashmere sweater and sipped black coffee as though he were simply attending a routine budget review.
"This is an outrageous abuse of corporate authority, Thomas," Arthur said, setting his ceramic cup down with a sharp clink. "You detain your own brother and co-founder over a phantom data leak? Because of some sudden emotional attachment to a girl who appeared out of nowhere with a sob story?"
Thomas did not raise his voice. He simply tapped a key on his console, and a massive holographic projection materialized in the center of the room. It displayed the encrypted routing logs, the keycard access timestamps, and the specific data packets transferred from the basement archives to Meridian Global’s offshore proxy server.
"The keycard used was your administrative master credential, Arthur," Thomas stated coldly. "The IP address traced back to your private offshore holdings. And the timing aligns precisely with your emergency communications to Meridian's CEO."
Arthur didn’t flinch. He leaned back in his leather chair, crossing his legs with infuriating composure. "Circumstantial digital footprints, Thomas. Anyone with administrative privileges could have cloned my credentials during the executive retreat last month. You want to pin this leak on me because you're desperate to validate your newfound fatherhood before the quarterly shareholder meeting next week."
Mei-ling stepped out of the shadows near the curved monitors. She walked slowly toward the center of the room, stopping directly opposite her uncle. The quiet confidence in her posture made Arthur’s eyes narrow with sudden, sharp unease.
"You didn't just clone credentials, Uncle Arthur," Mei-ling said, her voice cutting cleanly through the hum of the servers. "You made a critical mistake in the metadata of the transferred packet. You used the exact same personal encryption key you’ve utilized for your private Swiss bank accounts since two thousand and twelve—the one tied to the shell company that acquired the textile mill where my mother used to work."

Arthur’s face went rigid. The cool corporate mask slipped for a fraction of a second, revealing a flash of genuine panic. "That is an absurd fabrication—"
"Is it?" Mei-ling interrupted, sliding a printed decryption ledger onto the table. "My mother kept meticulous records of every legal threat, every anonymous payoff, and every corporate intimidation letter sent to her over the years. The digital signature on those letters matches the cryptographic fingerprint of your private Swiss holdings down to the last algorithmic salt."
