Chapter 14

The headlights of the approaching SUVs cut through the pouring rain like twin beams of interrogation light, illuminating the small stone security booth in sharp, blinding relief.
"They’ve locked onto the gate telemetry," Walter said, his voice level and resolute as he stared at the monitors. "The moment Julian threw the manual override, it transmitted our exact GPS coordinates to their primary tactical network."
Julian stepped away from the control panel, his eyes fixed on the approaching vehicles as they skidded to a halt outside the booth, blocking the exit entirely. Doors slammed open in unison, and heavy boots crunched across the wet gravel as tactical operatives surrounded the structure.
Marcus let out a low, confident laugh, leaning against the metal desk. "It’s over, Julian. You can’t outrun a syndicate that controls every federal health oversight board from here to Washington."
Julian looked at Clara, seeing the fierce, unyielding determination in her eyes despite the physical exhaustion and the pain of her injuries. He reached into his suit jacket pocket, pulling out a heavy, encrypted satellite communicator that bypassed all local network jams.
"Marcus thinks this is about corporate control," Julian said calmly, pressing the emergency broadcast key on the device. "He doesn't understand that the moment he uploaded those trials to Meridian Trust, our automated legal protocol triggered a dead-man’s switch."
The color drained from Marcus’s face as he stared at the communicator in Julian’s hand. "What did you do?"

"Every file, every financial ledger, and every encrypted research log associated with the syndicate’s compliance trials was automatically transmitted to the United States Department of Justice and the federal wire fraud division exactly twelve minutes ago," Julian answered, his voice steady. "Federal marshals are already securing the St. Jude's research facility as we speak."
Outside the glass windows of the security booth, the red and blue emergency lights of federal law enforcement cruisers began to flash through the rain, surrounding the tactical SUVs and cutting off the syndicate operatives before they could draw their weapons.
