Clara placed a fresh glass of crystal-clear water down in front of John, alongside a small folded paper—a note written in Arthur's steadying handwriting, inviting her to join them for dinner as family.
John looked at the paper, then up at Clara, his hazel eyes shining with a deep, peaceful warmth.
"Thank you, Clara," John said softly, his voice carrying no trace of the shadows that once haunted him. "For everything."
