Chapter 11: The Confession of Arthur

The police officers hesitated, lowering their weapons slightly as the old man stepped forward. Nora rushed out behind him, panic plastered across her face.

"Arthur, go back inside! You're confused, you don't know what you're saying—" Nora interjected, grabbing his arm.

"Get your hands off me, you parasite!" Arthur shouted, shaking her off with a sudden surge of strength born of pure adrenaline. He looked down the steps toward John, tears welling in his aged eyes. "Forgive me, my boy. I believed her lies. I let them drive you away."

John stepped forward into the morning light, his tough exterior dissolving completely. He walked up the stone steps, stopping just inches from his father. For a long moment, neither spoke—twenty-five years of pain, betrayal, and longing hanging in the balanced air between them.

"You're home, John," Arthur choked out, his voice breaking.
