News of Clara’s decisive maneuver and surprising mercy spread rapidly through the corporate world. Where people expected ruthless vengeance, she had delivered justice tempered with profound compassion. She saved five hundred families from losing their livelihoods while ensuring the vulnerable women's shelter received permanent protection.
Later that afternoon, as Clara was leaving the corporate building, she spotted a familiar figure standing near the entrance fountain. It was Evelyn.
She looked nothing like the proud, jewel-draped bride from the St. Regis. She wore simple clothes, her face pale and free of makeup. She hesitated before stepping toward Clara, looking down at the ground in shame.
"Clara," Evelyn whispered, her voice trembling. "I... I came to say I'm sorry. I know my apology means nothing now after everything my father and I tried to do."
Clara paused, watching the young woman carefully. "Why did you plant that diamond on me, Evelyn? What made you hate someone you didn't even know?"
Evelyn wiped a tear from her cheek. "I was terrified. I grew up in a home where love was only given if you brought home success, money, or higher social status. I thought if I didn't lock down Julian and secure the Sterling merger, I would be worthless. When I saw you—someone so calm, so unaffected by all the luxury—I felt small. I wanted to break you so I could feel big."
Clara looked at her with deep empathy. "Seeking your worth in wealth and status will only leave you empty, Evelyn. The diamond you tried to frame me with didn't make you powerful, and losing it didn't make you worthless. You are a human being, but you must choose to live with honor."
