Chapter 2: The Unraveling

Arthur Sterling turned slowly to face the crowd. His presence commanded immediate submission from every billionaire and dignitary in attendance. He picked up the black leather wallet resting near Clara's feet, along with the scattered lipstick and the glowing diamond stone. He looked down at the jewel in his hand, then raised his gaze to Evelyn.
"This is the rare pink diamond from the Sterling Heritage Vault," Arthur said smoothly, his tone icy enough to freeze fire. "It was removed from our safe three days ago under special authorization. I was told it was to be set into a custom piece for the bride."
Evelyn swallowed hard, her throat suddenly bone-dry. "Mr. Sterling... I... I didn't know. This woman was found near my dressing room. When my ring went missing, we searched, and her belongings dropped this! She stole it!"
"Did she?" Arthur asked quietly. He raised a small black remote control in his hand and signaled to the head of security who was standing near the wall.
Within seconds, the massive LED screens mounted behind the champagne pyramid flickered to life. The high-definition camera feed showed the private hallway outside the bridal suite from fifteen minutes earlier.
The video showed Evelyn herself holding her black clutch. With a deliberate, practiced movement, she unzipped Clara’s coat while Clara was looking away, slipped the diamond into Clara's pocket, and then deliberately knocked Clara’s purse to the ground to cause a scene.
Gasps rippled across the ballroom like a shockwave.
Julian turned slowly to look at his bride, his face pale with horror. "Evelyn... what is this? Why would you do that?"
"Julian, no! It’s a trick! They edited the footage!" Evelyn stammered, backing away, her eyes darting frantically across the room.
"Our security feeds are end-to-end encrypted with military precision, Miss Vance," Arthur stated calmly. "You framed a guest at your own wedding to humiliate her. But what you did not realize is why Clara was here in the first place."

Arthur walked over to Clara, placing a warm, protective hand over her shoulder.
"Clara is not an uninvited crasher," Arthur declared, his voice echoing across the ballroom. "She is my eldest daughter. The true sole heir to the Sterling Estate."
