Chapter 13: The Sanctuary

On a crisp December morning, the grand opening ceremony for the Sterling Maternal & Child Care Sanctuary took place in the heart of the city. The newly constructed facility featured warm wooden architecture, indoor gardens, state-of-the-art medical clinics, and safe housing units for mothers in need.

Hundreds of community members, news reporters, and local families gathered outside for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Clara stood at the podium, looking out over the crowd. She did not wear expensive jewelry or flashy designer gowns. Her beauty radiated from an inner peace that captivated everyone present.

"When we build structures out of stone and glass," Clara spoke into the microphone, her voice carrying clearly across the snow-dusted courtyard, "they are only as strong as the purpose inside them. This sanctuary was not built with excess wealth. It was built with love, truth, and the belief that every mother and every child deserves dignity."

The crowd erupted into warm, enthusiastic applause.

Beside the stage stood Julian and Evelyn, working side-by-side as event coordinators. They cheered alongside Arthur Sterling, whose eyes glistened with pride as he watched his daughter.

After the ribbon was cut, Clara walked through the sunlit corridors of the new facility, greeting young mothers and holding newborn babies. As she stepped out onto the garden terrace, a sudden, familiar tightness gripped her lower back.

She looked at her father, who was standing nearby, and smiled softly.

"Dad," Clara said gently, her voice full of wonder. "It’s time."
