Chapter 6: Rebuilding Trust

Rebuilding a fractured family was far harder than Julian or Clara anticipated. When Clara visited the house the next day, Lily hid behind Julian’s legs, refusing to look at her. The visual image of Clara standing near the fallen letter had burned a deep fear into the child's heart.
Instead of forcing a relationship, Clara took a patient, gentle approach. She didn't buy expensive toys or make grand promises. Instead, she sat on the rug in the living room, quietly drawing pictures, leaving space for Lily to approach on her own terms.
Days turned into weeks. Slowly, curiosity overcame Lily's fear. One afternoon, Lily walked over and placed a yellow crayon on Clara’s sketchpad.
""Can you draw a sun?"" Lily whispered timidly.

Clara looked up, tears welling in her eyes, but she smiled softly. ""I would love to, sweetie.""
In that tiny, simple gesture, the first wall of defense began to crumble, replaced by the fragile foundation of genuine affection.
