A few months after Lily’s recovery, an unexpected letter arrived in the mail. It was not a threat or a legal notice, but a handwritten note from Victoria Vance’s personal doctor.
Victoria had suffered a mild stroke and was living isolated in her massive estate, abandoned by the social circles she had spent a lifetime trying to impress. Her health was declining rapidly.
Clara sat at the kitchen table holding the letter, torn between past resentment and deep-seated compassion.
""You don't owe her anything, Clara,"" Julian said softly, placing a warm cup of tea beside her. ""She hurt us deeply.""
