The sprawling estate felt colder than ever before. Julian sat on the edge of Lily’s bed, gently stroking her hair until her soft, rhythmic breathing confirmed she was finally asleep. The poor child had lost her birth mother two years ago, and today’s traumatic scene had reopened deep emotional wounds.
Downstairs, the phone rang continuously. Guests were asking questions, media outlets were prying, and wedding planners were demanding payment. Julian ignored them all. His entire world had shrunk down to the sleeping child in front of him.
