Chapter 9: The Patriarch’s Verdict

Arthur Sterling stopped at the top of the grand staircase, his piercing blue eyes sweeping over the scene with terrifying economy. He didn't look at Clara, nor did he acknowledge the bruised face of the nanny. His gaze locked entirely onto Julian, who stood clutching the baby carrier with his children inside, shielding Clara from view.

"Julian," Arthur said, his voice a low, gravelly baritone that commanded absolute silence. "Victoria tells me you’ve been suffering from acute emotional exhaustion. Making irrational decisions regarding household staff, threatening domestic protocol."

Julian stepped forward slightly, positioning his body defensively between the patriarch and the two young women. "Your daughter illegally bound a twenty-five-year-old woman to a bed with my infant children, Arthur. That isn't exhaustion; that’s criminal behavior."

Arthur didn't blink. He took three slow, deliberate steps down the corridor, his tailored gray suit whispering against the carpet. The two security guards flanked him like shadows, their hands resting loosely near their side holsters.

"Victoria maintains the integrity of this family, Julian," Arthur said calmly, stopping a few feet away. He finally glanced toward Clara, his expression registering nothing more than passing annoyance. "And you brought an outside element into a private domestic dispute. A girl from nowhere, filling your head with nonsense about human rights and police intervention. You forget whose capital built the company you manage, Julian. You forget who underwrote the birth of those children."

"I am their father," Julian snapped, his voice rising, breaking through the restrained veneer he had maintained all evening. "Money doesn't buy parental immunity, Arthur. I don't care how many judges you own."

Victoria stepped up beside her father, slipping her arm through his with practiced filial grace. "He’s unstable, Father. Look at him. He’s shouting, he’s harboring a disgruntled employee, he’s threatening to tear down everything we’ve built. He needs to step away from the children. Now."

One of the security guards stepped forward, his hand extending toward the baby carrier in Julian’s arms. "Mr. Cole. Hand over the children. You are relieved of immediate domestic custody."

Julian stepped back, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. He looked from Arthur’s cold, impassive face to Victoria’s triumphant smirk, and finally down at Leo and Maya, who were beginning to stir softly in their carrier, sensing the spike in ambient tension. He knew that if he handed them over tonight, he would never see them again. The legal apparatus of Sterling Global would erase him before sunrise.

"Touch my children, and I swear to God I will burn this entire dynasty to the ground," Julian whispered, his voice shaking with a terrifying, absolute fury.
