Chapter 12: The Unbroken Promise

On Lily’s eighth birthday, Sarah saved enough money to buy her daughter a brand-new bicycle—a bright turquoise cruiser with a white wicker basket on the handlebars.

They took the bike to the town park, where the smooth paved paths wound through tall pine trees and around a quiet blue pond. Lily mounted the bike, her hands gripping the handles tightly as Sarah held the back of the seat to steady her balance.

""Don't let go, Mommy! I'm scared I'll fall!"" Lily cried out, her eyes wide with hesitation.

""I’m right here, sweetie,"" Sarah said gently, jogging beside her on the path. ""You don't need me to hold you up forever. You already know how to balance.""

Sarah slowly released her grip on the plastic seat. Lily kept pedaling. Five feet, ten feet, twenty feet—the turquoise bike glided smoothly forward under the summer canopy. Lily let out a joyous scream of triumph, her yellow ribbons streaming in the wind behind her as she pedaled freely down the path. Sarah stopped, watching her daughter soar with a full, grateful heart.
