Chapter 5: The Confession on Tape

Officer Miller spun the laptop around so the screen faced the entire room, maximizing a specific audio file that had just finished downloading from the encrypted server. He hit play, and a tinny, amplified voice filled the cavernous ballroom. It was Richard Sterling’s voice, unmistakable and dripping with calculated malice. “Make sure the girl takes the fall for the missing flash drive. Plant it in her coat pocket while she’s cleaning the foyer. Nobody checks the help, and if they do, she’s just an orphan with a record.”

The room went dead silent. Julian looked up, his face pale as death. The horrifying reality of his father’s cruelty hung heavily in the air. Richard stopped struggling against the handcuffs, his shoulders slumping in absolute defeat as he realized the net had closed completely. He hadn't just lost his freedom; he had lost his son’s respect, his social standing, and his carefully constructed legacy, all captured in crystal-clear digital perfection for the authorities to dissect.

Jax walked slowly toward the center of the dance floor, his heavy boots making a rhythmic, purposeful sound against the tile. He reached into his leather vest once more and pulled out the old faded photograph—the same one showing a younger, smiling Jax holding a tiny baby. He held it out toward Julian, not as a threat, but as an offering of truth. "Your old man loved power more than anything else, kid. He stole everything from the people who trusted him, including a family that didn't belong to him," Jax said evenly.

Julian reached out with a trembling hand and took the photograph. He stared at the face of the young biker, then looked back at Jax, seeing the lines of aging and hardship carved deep into the man’s features. The resemblance was subtle, but undeniable once you knew where to look. "Who... who is that baby?" Julian asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Jax didn't answer immediately; instead, he looked down at Lily, who was standing beside Clara, clutching her crayon drawing tightly to her chest.
