Chapter 7: The Pharmacist’s Ledger

Before he could lift Elena from the mattress, a faint beep chirped from a terminal on the bedside table. Adam glanced at the glowing monitor.

An automated billing and dosage ledger was open on the display screen.

Adam’s eyes scanned the records with mounting horror. Every dose of sedative, every supply of intravenous glucose, and every hush-money wire transfer was documented in clean, legalistic detail. The account funding the entire operation was registered to a shell foundation named *The St. Jude Heritage Trust*—wholly managed by Victoria Vance.

The ledger revealed an even darker truth: Victoria had not intended to keep Elena alive forever.

A scheduled termination order was dated for midnight tonight. The dosage had been queued to triple within the hour, designed to trigger an untraceable cardiac arrest before the final transfer of Elena's family estate shares cleared tomorrow morning.

"You monstrous sociopath," Adam breathed.

He pulled a portable thumb drive from his keychain and plugged it into the terminal, initiating a complete copy of every ledger, medical chart, surveillance backup, and wire transfer record. The truth would not be erased by high-priced defense attorneys or buried in private crematoriums.

As the progress bar reached one hundred percent, the room's primary lighting suddenly flashed red. An alarm began to blare overhead—a high-pitched siren that echoed down the concrete corridors.

A mechanical voice resonated over the intercom: *Security breach detected. Facility lockdown engaged.*

Adam ripped the drive from the port and pocketed it. He gently wrapped Elena in the heavy thermal blanket, lifting her light, frail frame into his arms.
