Chapter 11: The Web Unravels

Sirens wailed in the distance.

Adam had not only copied the files; before exiting the basement, he had transmitted the master evidence cache directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's regional field office and the state police emergency dispatch.

Victoria stood paralyzed in the blinding beams of approaching headlights. Three state trooper cruisers and an emergency medical vehicle roared through the rusted gates, splashing sheets of water as they formed a semi-circle around the perimeter.

Armed officers poured out with weapons drawn.

"State Police! Hands where we can see them! Step away from the vehicle!"

Victoria slowly raised her hands, her designer coat soaked through, her manicured fingers trembling violently against the dark sky. Beside her, the two downed contractors remained on the mud, offering no resistance.

Paramedics sprinted toward Adam with a collapsible stretcher and heated blankets.

"Sir, we need to take her immediately," the lead paramedic urged gently. "Her vitals are extremely low, but she is responsive."

"I'm riding with her," Adam insisted, refusing to let go of Elena's hand until she was safely secured onto the gurney.

Elena looked up at him through an oxygen mask, her weak fingers clutching his wrist with astonishing strength. She didn't need to speak. Her dark eyes, clear for the first time in years, held a lifetime of gratitude, endurance, and love.

"I’ve got you, Elena," Adam whispered, kissing her forehead. "You're safe now."
