Chapter 9: The Siege in Manhattan**

Aurelio was walking through the snow toward his apartment in Upper Manhattan when two black vans screeched to the curb. Four armed men in tactical jackets jumped out, moving to encircle him.
Before they could grab him, a convoy of unmarked sedans slammed into the street. Vargas and Mateo’s private security detail intercepted the mercenaries with overwhelming tactical force. Gunshots echoed off the brownstone buildings as pedestrians screamed and fled.
Vargas grabbed Aurelio by the collar, shoving him into the back of an armored SUV.
"They breached the firewall, kid!" Vargas yelled over the roar of the engine as they sped toward Teterboro Airport. "Ramos knows who you are. Mateo is handling it, but we have to get you out of the country."
"No!" Aurelio shouted, fighting against the seatbelt. "Where is Mateo?"

"He's drawing Ramos out," Vargas replied grimly. "He's offering himself in exchange for ending this war once and for all."
