Chapter 12: Opening the Dossier
Special Agent Miller’s office was compact, dominated by a large metal desk piled high with case files, financial charts, and digital storage drives. She motioned for Julian and Sarah to take the two chairs facing her desk while she closed the frosted glass door and engaged the electronic privacy latch.
Julian unzipped the waterproof sleeve and slid the thick brown document folder across the desk. The brass clasp clicked open, revealing the pages of forged signatures, suppressed medical evaluations, and internal emails detailing the systematic coercion orchestrated by Elena Vance and executed by Marcus.
Miller pulled the file toward her, sliding on her reading glasses as she began turning the pages with methodical precision. For several long minutes, the office was entirely silent save for the hum of the air conditioner and the soft cooing of Clara, who was playing quietly with a small rattle Julian had kept in his pocket.
"These signatures on the custody waiver forms," Miller finally said, looking up over her glasses with a grim expression. "They're expertly forged, but the digital metadata on the original templates matches the internal compliance server at the Vance Corporation headquarters."
"David Chen pulled the master archive before we left," Julian explained, leaning forward. "He can provide the digital access logs and server hashes if you need to subpoena their mainframe."
Miller nodded, making a quick note on a legal pad. "David Chen’s testimony combined with these physical documents gives us probable cause to request a federal search warrant for the estate and freeze the Foundation’s primary asset accounts. That will effectively cut off Elena’s legal maneuverability."

Sarah let out a long, shuddering breath, the tension that had gripped her shoulders for days finally beginning to ease. "Can she appeal it? Elena always has another backup plan, another judge in her pocket."
"Not this time," Miller said firmly, closing the folder with a decisive snap. "We're bypassing the local judicial circuits entirely and filing this directly with the federal magistrate. By sundown, federal marshals will be serving those warrants."
