Chapter 9: The Boardroom Revolt**

While Julian and Clara built a life rooted in honesty, Victoria’s empire was cracking from within. Obsessed with crushing Julian and funding private investigators, high-priced PR firms, and hostile corporate takeovers to prove her omnipotence, Victoria had overleveraged Ashford Enterprise’s liquidity.

On a rainy Monday in September, the board of directors convened an emergency session. Victoria strode into the boardroom in an emerald blazer, expecting the usual deferential silence.

Instead, every board member remained seated, their expressions grim. At the head of the long table sat Arthur Ashford.

“Arthur?” Victoria gasped, her voice trembling. “You haven’t attended a board meeting in seven years. What is the meaning of this?”

“The meaning, Victoria, is stewardship,” Arthur said, his voice quiet but commanding total authority. “I remained silent while you indulged your vanity. But when you used company legal funds to harass my great-grandson and filed fraudulent state reports against the mother of an Ashford heir, you crossed a line from corporate arrogance into moral bankruptcy.”

Richard Sterling, standing beside Arthur, handed Victoria a thick document. “Madam Ashford, the board has voted unanimously to strip your executive authority. By virtue of the original 1984 trust covenants, Arthur has transferred all controlling voting shares to a new blind trust.”

“To who?” Victoria shrieked, slamming her palms onto the mahogany table. “To Julian? He’s a blue-collar nobody now!”

“No,” Arthur replied calmly. “To a charitable educational foundation overseen jointly by Julian and Clara. You are hereby retired, Victoria. Your salary is capped at your baseline pension. The driver and the private plane have been canceled.”
