Chapter 11: The Seeds of Grace**

By Leo’s first birthday in November, Julian and Clara’s life had blossomed into something profoundly beautiful. Clara’s children’s book had spent twenty weeks on the national bestseller list, inspiring a nationwide campaign supporting single and struggling young mothers.
Julian had been promoted to head of design at his restoration firm, leading historic preservation projects with an authentic passion he had never felt in corporate boardrooms.
They held Leo’s birthday party not in a ballroom with politicians, but in the community garden behind their apartment building. Neighbors, local craftsmen, Clara’s publisher, and Julian’s fellow workers sat around folding tables decorated with wild sunflowers and paper lanterns.
Arthur sat in a rocking chair under the maple tree, clapping with pure joy as Leo smashed his tiny hands into a homemade carrot cake.
Julian stood beside Clara, wrapping his arm around her waist. She wore a simple white linen dress, her face radiant with peace.
“A year ago today,” Clara whispered, leaning her head against Julian’s shoulder, “I thought my life was over in that kitchen. I thought I would never be enough.”
Julian kissed her temple tenderly. “You were always more than enough, my love. You were the only real thing in a world made of plastic and glass.”

Just then, Julian’s phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a text message from a local hospital in upstate New York: *Emergency Admission: Victoria Ashford. Coronary distress.*
