Chapter 6: A Forgotten Elder**

A week after Sterling’s humiliation, an unexpected visitor arrived in Queens. This time, it wasn't a team of lawyers, but an old black sedan driven by a quiet chauffeur. An elderly man with a silver-tipped walking cane stepped out into the courtyard.
It was Arthur Ashford—Julian’s grandfather and the true founder of the empire Victoria now ruled with an iron fist. Arthur had lived in quiet seclusion at his estate upstate since his wife’s passing, ignored by Victoria except when ceremonial signatures were required.
Julian hurried down the front steps to help his grandfather up the stairs. “Grandfather… what are you doing here? Mother will lose her mind if she finds out you visited us.”
Arthur chuckled softly, his breath wheezing gently. “Your mother lost her mind thirty years ago, Julian, when she married your father for our stock portfolio instead of his heart.”
Inside the small apartment, Arthur sat on the worn sofa, holding baby Leo against his woolen sweater. He watched Clara quietly prepare tea, noting the immaculate cleanliness of the modest home, the vibrant watercolor paintings pinned to the wall, and the genuine laughter shared between his grandson and this brave young woman.
“I watched the surveillance footage from the night of the gala,” Arthur whispered, his eyes moistening as he looked at Clara. “Victoria erased the tape, but I have my own access. What she did to you at that sink was unconscionable. I spent fifty years building a fortune, only to watch it poison my daughter-in-law’s humanity.”

He reached into his coat pocket and placed a faded, wax-sealed envelope on the table. “Don't open this yet. Just know that character is the only true currency that outlasts the grave.”
