Chapter 15

The morning sun rose over the valley, bathing the farmhouse and the surrounding fields in a golden, luminous glow. Inside, the house was alive with the gentle sounds of a new day beginning. The smell of freshly brewed coffee drifted down the hallway, mingling with the scent of pine and woodsmoke from the living room stove.

Julian stood at the kitchen counter, pouring a cup of coffee while watching Leo and Toby rush down the stairs, backpacks slung over their shoulders as they argued playfully over who got the last blueberry muffin. Clara stood by the stove, smiling as she handed each boy a napkin and a warm smile, the very picture of grounded, everyday motherhood.

Upstairs, a soft coo echoed from the nursery, signaling that Maya was waking up and ready to greet the morning light. Julian set his coffee cup down and looked across the room at Clara. There was no hesitation in her eyes, no lingering shadow of the past, only the bright, unwritten promise of the day ahead.

"I've got her," Julian said with a quiet smile, heading toward the stairs.

Clara nodded, watching him go with a heart full of enduring peace. She turned back to the kitchen, calling out to the boys to finish tying their shoes.

Julian gently pushed open the nursery door. The morning light streamed through the white curtains, illuminating the crib where Maya sat up, stretching her tiny arms toward him with a wide, toothless grin. Julian picked her up, pressing her close against his chest in a familiar, protective embrace. He walked over to the window, holding his daughter up so she could see the vast, open valley stretching out endlessly beneath the clear blue sky.

The storm was long gone, the dark halls of the mansion were nothing more than a fading dream, and the road ahead belonged entirely to them. Julian whispered a soft greeting to the morning, knowing that whatever came next, they would face it together as an unbroken family, standing firmly in the light.
