Chapter 6

As the federal agents moved in, their handcuffs clicking with a metallic finality around Arthur Sterling’s wrists, the older man offered no physical resistance. His dignity was tattered, but he carried himself with the grim resignation of a predator who knew the hunt was finally over. He cast one last, lingering look at Julian—not with hatred, but with a strange, lingering curiosity. The media outside pressed their faces against the glass, capturing every second of the downfall through the tall ballroom windows. Marcus Vance watched the arrest unfold with a steady, unblinking gaze, though a muscle twitched near his jawline. Marcus knew that Arthur’s arrest was only the first domino in a much larger chain reaction. There were other partners, silent investors sitting on foreign boards who would not go down quietly.
"Take him through the service exit," Agent Miller instructed her team, guiding Arthur away from the flashbulbs and toward the private elevators. "We don't want a circus in the main lobby before the preliminary arraignment."
As Arthur was led past Marcus, the older man paused for a fraction of a second. "You think Julian is safe, Marcus? Men like us don't just walk away from what we built. The foundations of this city rest on bodies, not stone."
Marcus did not respond, merely tilting his head in a silent acknowledgment of the warning. Once the elevator doors closed behind Arthur and the federal escort, the ballroom felt strangely empty. The glittering crystal chandelier overhead seemed to lose some of its brilliance, casting a harsher, more sterile light over the remaining guests who were busy deleting their social media presence and frantically calling their lawyers. Julian exhaled a long, steady breath, finally allowing his shoulders to drop an inch from their rigid posture. He looked down at his white suit jacket, noticing a faint smudge of dust on the sleeve from where Marcus had adjusted his collar earlier.
"It’s done," Julian murmured, more to himself than to the man beside him.
"It’s only just beginning," Marcus corrected gently, stepping closer. "The board in Zurich has already initiated emergency protocols. They didn't need Arthur to authorize their holdings; they have their own operational network."

Julian turned to face Marcus, his expression hardening. "Then we finish what we started. We go to Zurich."
