Chapter 12

The black sedan pulled off the main highway, climbing the winding, snow-dusted hills overlooking Lake Zurich toward the private residence of Prosecutor Hans Weber. The sprawling alpine villa sat behind wrought-iron gates, surrounded by towering pine trees that hissed softly in the freezing wind. Erika cut the headlights a hundred yards down the lane, letting the car coast silently to a halt along the stone wall. Julian stepped out into the biting cold, holding the leather-bound ledger and the flash drive containing the complete digital mirror from the vault. Marcus flanked him on the left, his posture vigilant, while Erika remained behind the wheel ready to execute a rapid extraction if the situation turned hostile.
Julian walked up to the heavy oak front door of the villa and pressed the brass doorbell. Within seconds, heavy footsteps echoed from inside, and the porch light clicked on, illuminating the falling snow. The door opened to reveal Prosecutor Hans Weber himself, wearing a dark wool bathrobe over his pajamas, his face etched with exhaustion and shock at being disturbed at three in the morning.
"Mr. Vance?" Weber said, his eyes darting from Julian to Marcus, instantly recognizing the gravity of the unannounced visit. "Are you entirely insane? You are currently the subject of an international corporate arrest warrant issued by the Geneva banking syndicate."
"The banking syndicate is a criminal front run by Arthur Sterling and his co-directors in Zurich," Julian stated calmly, holding up the heavy ledger without stepping back. "If you let me in for five minutes, I will provide the physical and digital evidence that proves your own office has been compromised by their hush-money network for the past decade."
Weber stared at the ledger in Julian’s hands, his expression shifting from anger to deep, calculating apprehension. He knew the political stakes; his own career was up for re-election next month, and the shadow of corruption allegations hung heavily over the entire judiciary. Slowly, Weber stepped aside, opening the door wider to allow them entry into the warmth of the grand foyer.
"You have exactly five minutes to convince me not to call the state police right now, Mr. Vance," Weber said, closing the heavy oak door behind them with a decisive thud.
Julian placed the ledger and the flash drive squarely on the mahogany entryway table. "Check file designation zero-zero-one on that drive, Prosecutor. It contains every wire transfer made to your department’s offshore oversight fund. You didn't know about it, did you? Arthur used your name without your authorization to launder the hush money."

Weber’s face drained of color as he opened the laptop resting on the console table and plugged in the drive. The screen flickered to life, displaying a cascade of encrypted bank records bearing his own digital signature—a signature that had been systematically forged by Arthur’s automated shell system.
