The Threat of Truth

Julian’s face went chalk-white. "You wouldn't."

"I kept the original site telemetry files from five years ago, Julian," Marcus said, not blinking. "The ones our father ordered you to erase when the retaining walls showed forty percent structural failure. The files that prove you falsified city safety permits to cash out your first ten-million-dollar dividend."

"That would destroy the family company!" Julian hissed, glancing nervously at the hospital security guard standing near the entrance.

"The company died the day you started treating people like scrap materials," Marcus replied coldly. "You have no rights here tonight. If you take one step toward that elevator, I call the federal marshal's office."

Arthur Sterling looked at Julian, then slowly closed his manila folder. "Julian... we should reassess our legal standing in the morning."

"Sterling, shut up!" Julian snapped, his composure disintegrating. He glared at David and Marcus, pointing a trembling finger. "She signed the land transfer! It’s filed! Even if she wakes up, she has nothing left!"

"She has her son," David said fiercely. "And she has us. Now get out."

Julian backed away toward the sliding glass doors, his face a mask of bitter venom. "This isn't over. Tomorrow morning, my lawyers will own this hospital."

As the doors closed behind Julian, Marcus turned to David. "We have six hours before he gets an emergency injunction from a corrupt judge. We need concrete evidence of what happened in that kitchen."

"The phone," David realized suddenly. "Emma had her phone in her hand when I found her."
