Chapter 13

The silence in the penthouse boardroom was absolute, broken only by the rhythmic hum of the high-rise ventilation system and the distant sirens wailing down on the avenue below, signaling the arrival of the municipal police units escorting Eleanor and Marcus Vance to the precinct.
Arthur Sterling sank slowly back into his leather chair, the fight completely drained out of him. The tailored suit that had once projected untouchable corporate dominance now hung loosely on his slumped shoulders. He looked across the gleaming mahogany table at Clara, recognizing the immutable reality of his defeat. There were no legal loopholes left to exploit, no family connections deep enough to bury the digital evidence currently illuminating the boardroom screen.
"What... what do you want?" Arthur asked, his voice hollow and broken, stripped of all arrogance.
Clara remained standing behind the central chair, her hands resting lightly on the polished wood. The white lace gown and long sleeves framed her posture with stark, unyielding elegance. She didn't smile, nor did she gloat; her expression remained a study in absolute professional detachment.
"I don't want vengeance, Arthur. Vengeance is inefficient," Clara said evenly. "What I want is complete operational autonomy. As of right now, you and your son are formally stripped of all executive voting privileges within Sterling Logistics. Your personal shares are hereby converted to non-voting minority stock, subject to a five-year vesting freeze while we audit every subsidiary account your family touched."
The silver-haired board director nodded slowly, sliding a pre-drafted legal document across the table toward Arthur. "Sign it, Arthur. It’s the only way you avoid a federal indictment for corporate wire fraud and extortion."

Arthur stared at the document like it was a physical sentence of exile. With trembling fingers, he reached for the heavy silver fountain pen resting beside the folder. He didn't look at his son’s empty chair, nor did he look at his wife’s frozen image on the backup monitors. He simply signed his name at the bottom of the page, the scratching of the nib against parchment sounding like dry leaves blowing across winter pavement.
Maya stepped forward, retrieving the signed instrument of surrender and verifying the digital timestamp. "Executed and sealed," she said quietly, handing the tablet back to Clara. The corporate coup was officially over, and the rightful owner had reclaimed her crown without firing a single shot of anger.
