Chapter 11

The tension in the study reached a boiling point as the two bailiffs hesitated, looking between Julian’s commanding fury and Isabella’s chilling composure. They were local officers accustomed to executing civil orders, not acting as enforcers in bitter domestic feuds. Isabella’s facade slipped for a fraction of a second, her jaw tightening as she realized that Julian’s paternal authority still outweighed her manufactured legal leverage within the walls of his own estate.

"You are making a grave mistake, Julian," Isabella said, her voice dropping its honeyed pretense and revealing the sharp, venomous edge beneath. "Without my capital and my legal filings, your shipping contracts will default within the week. The bank will foreclose on this house, and everything your ancestors built will be auctioned off to pay your debts. You are choosing your emotional attachment to a rebellious child over your own survival."

"My survival was never tied to your deceptions," Julian replied, his voice ringing with absolute finality as he stepped around the desk, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Clara. He picked up the weathered ledger and held it toward the bailiffs. "Gentlemen, look at this document. It details systematic fraud and identity falsification committed by the woman standing before you. I am officially revoking any power of attorney granted under duress during my illness, and I am filing immediate charges of corporate and domestic fraud."

The senior bailiff stepped forward, taking the ledger from Julian’s hand and examining the faded ink and maritime seals. His professional skepticism was instantly aroused. He looked from the ledger to Isabella, whose expression had turned from triumphant to fiercely defensive.

"Ma'am, we will need to accompany you to the magistrate’s office to clarify these discrepancies," the bailiff said formally, signaling to his partner.

Isabella stepped back, her dark eyes flashing with pure malice. She realized that her elaborate scheme had finally collapsed under the weight of its own deceit. "You think you have won," she hissed, glaring directly at Clara. "This house is cursed by the ghosts of your past, and neither of you will ever find peace within these walls." With a sharp swirl of her purple velvet skirts, she turned and swept out of the study, the bailiffs following close behind her down the long hallway.
