Chapter 10

The gleaming glass skyscraper of Vance Enterprises towered over downtown, its sleek architecture symbolizing corporate dominance and untouchable wealth. Arthur and Clara stepped out of the elevator onto the executive floor, dressed in sharp business attire that projected quiet confidence. The receptionist looked up in sheer astonishment, clearly remembering the strict directives Eleanor had issued regarding Arthur’s permanent ban from the premises. Arthur ignored the receptionist’s startled gasp, walking purposefully toward the massive double doors of the boardroom where the quarterly meeting was currently underway. Clara walked beside him, her head held high, her beige dress replaced by a tailored dark navy suit that mirrored her unwavering strength. Arthur pushed the boardroom doors open without knocking, the sudden motion silencing the heated discussion happening inside. Around the polished mahogany conference table sat a dozen senior board members, alongside Eleanor who presided from the head seat with an expression of pure fury. Eleanor slammed her hand down on the wood, shouting at security to remove the intruders immediately from the private meeting. None of the security guards moved, however, as Detective Miller stepped out from the shadows near the back wall, holding a federal subpoena. Miller announced that the board was formally notified of an ongoing criminal investigation into corporate fraud, intellectual property theft, and asset misappropriation dating back twenty years. Murmurs of shock rippled through the board members as Arthur walked to the head of the table and placed a digital drive beside Eleanor’s notepad. Arthur addressed the room in a calm, authoritative voice, detailing how Eleanor and her late husband had systematically suppressed the true creators of the company’s foundational technology. He presented the digital copies of the stolen patents alongside financial audit reports proving the illegal diversion of funds into offshore accounts. Eleanor’s face turned pale beneath her heavy makeup, her trembling hands gripping the edges of the table as she realized her empire was collapsing in real-time. Several board members demanded immediate clarification, turning their questioning gazes away from the matriarch and toward the younger Vance heir. Clara stepped forward, adding her voice to the proceedings by outlining how the toxic corporate culture had been used to intimidate anyone who dared question the family’s methods. The atmosphere in the room shifted irreversibly; the fear that had kept the board compliant for decades evaporated under the weight of undeniable legal evidence. Harrison, the family lawyer, stood up quietly near the back door and slipped out of the room, abandoning his primary client to her inevitable fate. Eleanor slumped back in her executive chair, her legendary aura of invulnerability finally shattering into dust.
