Chapter 12: The Fall of Julian Vance

In October, the federal hammer dropped on Julian Vance.

Following the Department of Justice’s investigation, Julian entered a guilty plea to two counts of securities fraud and one count of tax evasion at the Federal District Court in Boston.

He was sentenced to six years in a federal correctional facility in Pennsylvania, along with $18 million in mandatory restitution.

The Beacon Hill penthouse was auctioned on the courthouse steps.

His sports cars, his art collection, and his country club shares were liquidated to settle the debts he had accrued chasing social supremacy.

Emma read the news briefing on her tablet on the screened porch while Clara napped peacefully in her cedar crib.

She felt no bitterness, no vindictive triumph.

She simply closed the document, deleted the bookmark, and walked into the kitchen to prepare fresh apple butter from the heirloom trees behind the cottage.
