Chapter 5: The Radio Dispatch

The static hiss of the police radio filled the cavernous silence of the banquet hall, abruptly cutting through the tension. The voice coming through the receiver was distorted, but the words were crystal clear and chillingly urgent.
“Unit Four, be advised—central command just received an emergency alert from the federal clearinghouse. All corporate accounts associated with Vance Holdings were just subjected to a massive, automated asset wipe. Total liquidity transferred to an unknown, unrecoverable offshore node exactly forty seconds ago.”
The sergeant froze, his hand hovering over the evidence bag containing Elena’s flash drive. He slowly raised his eyes from the small plastic pouch to Marcus Vance.
Marcus, however, didn't look panicked. In fact, the triumphant smirk had returned to his face, sharper and colder than before. He lowered his hands slowly, stepping past the junior officers as if he owned the entire precinct.
“It appears,” Marcus said smoothly, his voice dripping with false sympathy, “that my lovely bride managed to execute the final phase of her plan just moments before you arrived, Sergeant. She didn't want to save the company; she wanted to steal the final tranche of capital before the audit caught up with her.”
Elena stared at Marcus in absolute horror. The offshore asset wipe wasn't something she had initiated—she didn't even have the decryption keys for the primary accounts. Marcus had engineered the entire transfer himself, using the police arrival as the ultimate distraction to execute his escape plan and pin the blame squarely on her shoulders.
“That’s a lie!” Elena shouted, struggling against the restraint on her wrists. “He just drained the accounts right now! The timestamp on that digital transfer will prove—!”
“There will be no timestamps to check, Mrs. Vance,” a cold, metallic voice interrupted from the doorway.
Everyone turned to see a tall man in a charcoal suit stepping into the hall, flanked by two armed federal agents displaying Department of Justice insignia. He didn't look like a local cop; he carried the heavy, uncompromising aura of federal intelligence. He pulled a leather badge case from his breast pocket, flashing the gold shield.
“Special Agent Vance—no relation, I assure you,” the federal agent said, his eyes scanning the room before locking onto Marcus. “Marcus Vance, you are under federal indictment for interstate wire fraud, money laundering, and corporate identity theft. And you, Elena Vance,” the agent continued, turning his gaze toward the bride, “are listed as the primary beneficial owner of the destination accounts holding twelve million dollars in stolen client funds.”
Elena felt the floor drop out from under her. The forged signature, the missing records, the sudden police arrival, and now the federal indictment—it was all part of an airtight trap that Marcus had been building for over a year, using her as the ultimate scapegoat to walk away scot-free while she took the fall for his federal crimes.
Marcus smiled warmly at the federal agent, extending his wrists with theatrical compliance. “I’m glad you’re finally here, Agent. My wife and her associate tried to hold me hostage to force me to sign off on the transfer.”

As the federal agents moved forward to snap steel handcuffs onto Marcus’s wrists—a performance designed to fool even the Department of Justice—Agent Vance stepped up to Elena and pulled out a warrant that shattered every remaining illusion of her freedom.
