Chapter 15

The autumn sun rose over the New England coastline, washing the crashing waves and the rugged cliffs in a brilliant, golden light. Down at the edge of the estate’s property, the small stone guest cottage hummed with the quiet, grounding energy of a brand-new beginning. The scent of freshly brewed coffee drifted from the kitchen window, mingling with the crisp salt air blowing in off the Atlantic.

Julian stood on the wooden porch, leaning against the railing with a steaming ceramic mug in his hand. He wore a simple flannel shirt and worn jeans, his posture relaxed, completely unburdened by the heavy velvet tuxedo jackets and corporate expectations of his past. Across the gravel path, a small wooden sign hung beside the oak door: Vance & Vance Maritime Consulting. It wasn't a multi-million-dollar real estate conglomerate, and it didn't come with an army of lawyers or a trust fund, but every single client they served was real, honest, and earned through hard work.

Rebecca stepped out onto the porch, wrapped in a cozy knit sweater, holding her own mug of coffee. She leaned against his shoulder, looking out at the endless expanse of the horizon where the blue ocean met the clear morning sky.

“The state prosecutor’s office called an hour ago,” Rebecca said softly, a quiet smile playing on her lips. “Arthur Sterling accepted a plea deal. Ten years federal, minimum security, with a full cooperation agreement regarding the Geneva insurance accounts.”

Julian nodded slowly, taking a sip of his coffee. “And Beatrice?”

“Still in Zurich,” Rebecca replied, her tone devoid of malice or triumph, carrying only the calm closure of a chapter finally finished. “The Swiss authorities upheld the extradition paperwork. Her legal team has officially exhausted every appeal. She’ll have to face the federal indictments if she ever sets foot back in the country.”

Julian looked out at the ocean, feeling a profound sense of peace wash over him. The nightmare of the gala, the planted diamond necklace, the screaming accusations, and the bitter family wars felt like a lifetime ago—a distant drama played out by strangers on another stage. He had lost an empire, but in doing so, he had found his real life, his integrity, and the woman who had stood by him through the fire.

He wrapped his free arm around Rebecca, pulling her close against his side as the morning breeze rustled the surrounding oak leaves.
