CHAPTER 4: THE TRACKER AWAKENS

At 3:00 AM, the perimeter alarms of the Vance estate tripped silently. Thermal imaging displayed five heat signatures gliding through the tree line with professional discipline.

Leading the strike team was Marcus Crane, a ruthless mercenary commander whose career had been spent cleaning up rogue government operations. Crane had tracked Clara’s digital footprint for three years.

"Non-lethal on the kid," Crane ordered into his tactical comms. "He’s worth fifty million to our overseas buyers. Take the father out."

Inside the dark house, Toby sat cross-legged in the center of the living room floor. No lights were on. The wooden floorboards were silent.

The front door breached with a muffled pop. Three laser sights swept the room, converging squarely on Toby's chest.

"Freeze, kid," one operator hissed.

Toby didn't blink. "You have a torn meniscus in your right knee, Sergeant Barnes. You favor your left foot by three inches. And you're six weeks away from your daughter's high school graduation."

The operative froze, stunned. "How do you..."

"I remember everyone my mother ever tried to help," Toby said softly into the dark. "Your real name is Thomas. You left the Marines because you needed medical insurance for Chloe."

The silence in the room stretched until it became unbearable.
