Chapter 15: The Unbroken Light

Ten years after the locks were changed.

The morning sun broke over the Appomattox hills, bathing the vast green valleys of the sanctuary in a sea of radiant, golden light.

The botanical drying sheds, the clinical consultation pavilions, and the apprentice cottages were bustling with vibrant life. Over fifty young herbalists, physicians, and agricultural conservationists were walking along the stone pathways between the gardens, carrying wooden harvest baskets heavy with fresh medicinal roots.

The air was sweet with the fragrance of blooming peppermint, woodsmoke, fresh bread, and the clean, living earth.

Standing on the timber porch of the main dispensary was Evelyn Miller. She was seventy-three now, her silver hair catching the morning light like a crown of spun light, her face radiant with the serene, unassailable majesty of a matriarch whose house was built upon the rock.

Beside her stood Dr. Marcus Hayes, both of them watching three-year-old Thomas—Julian and Sarah’s son—running through the clover meadow, chasing butterflies with a handmade wooden net.

Down in the greenhouse, Julian and Sarah were working side by side at the potting bench, laughing together as they taught a class of young apprentices how to graft heirloom medicinal shrubs.

Evelyn looked at her family, then turned her eyes toward the endless horizon of green mountains stretching into the boundless blue sky.

The false pride had burned away. The luxury illusions had long since crumbled into forgotten dust.

All that remained was the sacred ground—held by honest love, consecrated by daily service to the broken, and standing strong against every storm in the eternal, unbroken light of truth.
