Chapter 12 - The Final Stand

Vance stopped ten paces away, his expression calm, calculated, and utterly merciless. He lowered his weapon slightly, gesturing with his free hand toward the surrounding shadows as four heavily armed guards materialized from the darkness, completely cutting off all exits from the abandoned station.
"End of the line, Julian," Vance said smoothly, his voice echoing off the vaulted tile ceiling. "You always were a survivor, but even rats eventually run out of maze."
Julian stepped protectively in front of Leo, his body aching from blood loss and exhaustion, but his mind remained razor-sharp. He kept his hand steady inside his coat pocket, gripping the heavy metal casing of the satellite phone they had brought from the office.
"It’s over, Viktor," Julian said, his voice ringing with absolute clarity. "You think killing us will bury the ledger? The moment I picked up that satellite phone back in the office, an automated packet containing every financial record, every offshore account, and every dirty acquisition contract was uploaded to an encrypted cloud server configured to release publicly if my biometric signal flatlines."
Vance’s calm demeanor flickered for a fraction of a second, a micro-expression of genuine shock crossing his weathered face. He tightened his grip on his sidearm.
"You're bluffing," Vance muttered, though hesitation crept into his tone.
"Am I?" Julian challenged, stepping forward into the pale beam of the flashlight, refusing to show weakness. "Ask yourself, Viktor. Would a man who spent thirty years building a pristine reputation leave his legacy to chance? Clara didn't just give the boy a pendant. She gave him the key to tear your entire syndicate down to the foundation."
Vance stared at Julian, weighing the immense risk. The silence in the abandoned station was deafening, broken only by the distant, rhythmic dripping of water from the vaulted ceiling.
"Kill the boy," Vance finally ordered coldly, raising his weapon toward Leo's chest. "We retrieve the pendant from his corpse. If the server activates, we burn the rest of the empire down with us."
One of the guards stepped forward, raising his rifle with mechanical precision.
Leo squeezed his eyes shut, letting out a soft, terrified sob as he pressed his face into Julian’s torn coat.
Julian didn't hesitate. With a final surge of adrenaline, he pulled the satellite phone from his pocket, slammed his thumb onto the emergency broadcast button, and hurled the device across the tiled floor directly toward Vance's feet.

"Now!" Julian roared.
