Chapter 13: A Second Chance at Life
By the end of Eleanor’s fifth year of incarceration, the state parole board called a special hearing to evaluate her progress. Her doctors and counselors submitted glowing reports detailing her exemplary conduct, deep remorse, and full recovery through therapy.
Clara and Mark attended the hearing voluntarily. When the board asked for Clara’s input, she stood up before the panel.
“Eleanor has served her time with humility and genuine transformation,” Clara stated clearly. “She has paid her debt to society, and more importantly, she has confronted the trauma that drove her to madness. My family welcomes her parole.”

The board voted unanimously for early release under supervised probation. As the decision was announced, Eleanor looked across the room at Clara and Mark, placing her hand over her heart in silent, overwhelming gratitude.
