Chapter 12: The Foundation

Six months later, the Sterling Medical Research Foundation opened its doors in downtown Boston. Unlike the gleaming, exclusive clinic where Maya had been imprisoned, this center was dedicated entirely to free diagnostic services for underprivileged families.
Samuel stood beside Maya on the sunlit steps as the ribbon was cut. The old watchmaker wore a tailored navy suit, looking proud and dignified.
"Your father would have wept with joy today, Maya," Samuel said, holding her hand.
"He is here with us, Samuel," she replied, touching the small silver locket around her neck—which the police had recovered from Eleanor’s penthouse safe. Inside was a tiny photograph of Arthur holding baby Maya in the lab.

Dr. Vance arrived with his young daughter, who had made a full recovery from her illness. Vance took Maya’s hand with profound gratitude. "Thank you for not having my license revoked, Maya. I will spend the rest of my life making amends at this clinic."
"You did the right thing when it mattered most, Doctor," Maya said. "Redemption is about what you do next."
