Chapter 14 - The Final Execution

The digital interface loaded with a faint electronic chime, displaying a complex dashboard of encrypted ledgers and countdown timers. The sunrise was less than two hours away, casting a faint, pale gray light through the high security windows of the precinct. Detective Miller, Attorney Vance, and Martha stood shoulder-to-shoulder behind Iris, watching her every move as her fingers flew across the laptop keyboard with practiced precision.

"Inputting the access string from the cardstock now," Iris announced calmly, her voice steady.

She typed out the long sequence of alphanumeric characters and scanned the QR code using her laptop's built-in camera. The status bar on the screen turned from angry red to a cautious yellow.

Access Key Part One Accepted. Awaiting Secondary Biometric Verification.

"Now for the hardware drive," Iris said, selecting the secondary prompt.

The screen blinked, requesting the physical authorization key stored on the USB drive currently plugged into the side port. The progress bar crept forward slowly, reaching ninety-nine percent before suddenly stalling with a sharp warning error.

Error: Biometric Mismatch. Authorized User Verification Required.

Martha gasped, leaning closer to the screen. "What does that mean? Robert didn't change the biometric data, did he?"

"No," Iris said, her brow furrowing in concentration as she inspected the underlying code. "Grandfather didn't link the biometric override to Robert. He linked it to the primary legal executor of the estate."

Attorney Vance smiled knowingly. "Which is you, Iris."

Iris placed her thumb gently onto the fingerprint scanner attached to the laptop’s auxiliary port. The red light on the scanner flickered, paused for a agonizing three seconds, and then flashed a solid, brilliant green.

The main dashboard unlocked instantly, revealing the full digital wallet balance—more than enough to clear the primary mortgage, the secondary lien, and all outstanding business debts with millions to spare.

"Smart contract execution ready," Iris whispered, her heart pounding in her chest. "Shall I authorize the transfer?"

Martha nodded firmly, a profound sense of peace settling over her features. "Do it."

Iris pressed the enter key. The screen cascaded with cascading green data streams as the smart contract automatically distributed the funds directly to the municipal trust and the commercial creditors.

Transaction Successful. All Estate Liabilities Settled in Full.

The countdown timer on the screen vanished, replaced by a simple, elegant digital message from her late grandfather: Well played, family.

Just as the tension broke and everyone exhaled in unison, the precinct door swung open, and an exhausted, handcuffed Robert was hauled into the bullpen by two officers, glaring daggers across the room.
