Chapter 13 - The Boardroom Ultimatum

The morning sun cast long, sharp shadows across the mahogany conference room on the top floor of Vance-Graham Global Headquarters. The room was deathly quiet, save for the rhythmic ticking of a vintage grandfather clock in the corner. Around the polished table sat the seven members of the corporate board of directors, their expressions cold, unyielding, and distinctly uncomfortable. They had already heard the breaking news reports of Senator Clara Vance’s federal arrest, and they were eager to distance themselves from the crumbling scandal before the market opened.

Graham pushed the heavy oak doors open and walked in with slow, deliberate strides. He wore a crisp, dark suit, his posture tall and unyielding, completely devoid of the exhaustion that had weighed on him just hours before at the estate. He didn't sit down at the head of the table; instead, he stood leaning against the back of the empty leather chair, his dark eyes sweeping slowly across each member of the board.

Arthur Pendelton, the senior board chairman, cleared his throat nervously, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses before breaking the silence.

“Graham, under the circumstances... given the federal investigation into Senator Clara Vance and the sudden freeze on our primary charity funding, the board has convened an emergency session,” Pendelton began, his voice dry and corporate. “We have drafted a preliminary resolution to restructure the executive leadership team immediately.”
