Chapter 1 - The Public Indictment

The upscale Manhattan restaurant hummed with the quiet murmurs of elites dining against a backdrop of towering glass windows overlooking a glittering evening skyline. At a corner table, Valeria sat in her beige trench coat over a green dress, her shoulder-length dark brown hair catching the warm ambient light. Opposite her sat an older man with gray hair, dressed in a sharp blue suit jacket and a light blue button-down shirt. Between them rested a white handbag and two delicate wine glasses.

The tense atmosphere shattered as a middle-haired woman with long black hair, draped in a maroon sleeveless dress, strode up to the table accompanied by a tall blond man in a gray suit and a trimmed beard.

"Three days divorced, and you already found a rich older man?" the dark-haired woman sneered, leaning in close and glaring down at Valeria with undisguised malice.

Valeria kept her face completely composed, her dark eyes maintaining a steady, chilling calm.

"Careful, sir, Valeria is very good at looking innocent," the dark-haired woman continued, tossing a sharp glance toward the older man in the blue suit.

The blond man in the gray suit looked down at the floor, his jaw clenching as a flicker of profound discomfort crossed his handsome features. He shifted his weight nervously, avoiding eye contact with everyone at the table.

"You don't have to expose yourself like this, Valeria," the man in the gray suit muttered, his voice tight and restrained, as if trying to defuse a ticking bomb of his own making.

Valeria did not blink. She merely let out a slow, measured breath, allowing the silence to stretch just long enough to make her ex-husband squirm.

The older man in the blue suit slowly pushed his chair back and stood up. He adjusted his suit jacket with deliberate precision, his gray eyes flashing with cold authority. He looked directly at the hostile woman in the maroon dress.

"To avoid further confusion, Valeria is my daughter," the older man said, his voice ringing out with a quiet, devastating finality that instantly silenced the surrounding tables.

The color drained from the face of the woman in the maroon dress. She staggered backward, her mouth opening in silent shock as she looked from the wealthy older man to Valeria.

Valeria picked up her white handbag, smoothing the fabric of her beige trench coat, and stood up gracefully.

"Take good care of it," Valeria said, her voice dropping an octave as she turned her piercing gaze toward her ex-husband and his new companion. "You seem to like things other women already decided to leave behind."

With her father following closely behind her, Valeria walked toward the restaurant exit, leaving the stunned couple frozen in the center of the dining room. As the heavy glass doors swung shut behind them, Valeria’s phone buzzed in her pocket with an anonymous text message containing a single, chilling photograph of her father’s signature on a secret corporate document.
