Chapter 1 - The Midnight Betrayal

The biting autumn wind swept across the wrought-iron gates of the estate, carrying with it the undeniable chill of betrayal.
Julian stood under the warm foyer light, his posture rigid, clutching a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills and a crisp white envelope as if they could somehow shield him from his own profound cowardice. Beside him, Clara rested a manicured hand upon her visibly pregnant belly, her pink satin dress gleaming under the chandelier while a triumphant, predatory smirk played faintly across her lips.
Outside on the damp stone steps, Eleanor adjusted the lapels of her immaculate white suit, her long brown hair dancing in the breeze as she maintained a grip of iron on her silver suitcase.
Her voice cut through the silence, remarkably steady yet laced with a dangerous frost.
"My son has a new wife now. She is expecting. Get out."
Julian swallowed hard, his eyes darting away from his mother’s penetrating gaze.
"Take this and find a hotel. You can't stay here anymore. Times have changed, Mother. Clara needs this house, and my new life starts tonight."
Eleanor let out a sharp, incredulous laugh that held zero humor.
"My son? You dare call yourself my son after trading your soul to a gold-digger for a penthouse down payment?"
Clara stepped forward, her voice dripping with venomous fake sweetness.
"Oh, Eleanor, don't be so dramatic. Age doesn't suit your bitter attitude. Julian is a man now, and he makes his own choices."
Eleanor turned her gaze to the younger woman, her eyes narrowing to thin slits.
"Silence, parasite. You rented that belly and that smile, but you bought the wrong family."
Julian slammed the heavy oak door shut in her face, leaving her in the dark.
Eleanor turned away from the mansion without another word, her stride unbroken as she walked toward the curb where a sleek black luxury car idled under the canopy of ancient oaks.
The uniformed driver stepped out instantly, hoisting a heavy black umbrella to shield her from the mist.
As she slid into the leather interior, she pulled out a slim device, tapped the screen, and placed a call to her most trusted corporate fixer.
Her voice dropped an octave, dripping with absolute finality.
"Tomorrow bring the original deed and cancel everything he has."
