Summer arrived in the valley with warm breezes and fields of wild blue lupines blooming along the mountain highways.
The Blackwood Estate was demolished under Clara’s orders. In its place, the family funded the construction of the *Arthur and Clara Vance Community Youth Center*—a sprawling facility offering shelter, education, and art programs for underprivileged children across three counties.
Marcus retired to a small cottage at the edge of town, spending his mornings tending a sprawling vegetable garden and his afternoons sitting on the porch of the Starlight Diner, reading the morning paper.
Elena bought the diner from its retiring owner using her own savings and a modest, interest-free loan from the community trust. She repainted the exterior bright yellow, replaced the broken booths with warm pine benches, and hung framed crayon drawings on the walls behind the counter.
The old vintage jukebox remained in the corner. But the heavy iron chains were gone forever. Instead, it was restored to its full glory, its colorful neon tubes glowing brightly, playing old soul and jazz records for anyone who dropped a dime into the slot.
