Chapter 4: The Prodigy

What started as a single afternoon turned into a nightly ritual. Every evening after dinner, Ethan would sit with Lily at the piano. He wasn't a maestro, but he knew enough to teach her the basics.

However, by the third week, something extraordinary happened. Ethan was in his study when he heard a melody. It wasn't the clumsy, hesitant notes of a toddler. It was a simplified, yet perfectly pitched rendition of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy—a song he had played for her only twice.

He walked into the living room and found Lily playing entirely from memory, her small brow furrowed in deep concentration. Sarah was standing nearby, a duster forgotten in her hand, staring in disbelief.

Ethan looked at Sarah, a sense of awe washing over him. “She’s playing by ear. Sarah… she’s gifted. Truly gifted.”

Sarah’s eyes filled with tears. “We could never afford lessons. Her father loved music, but…”

“She will have everything she needs,” Ethan vowed quietly. “I’ll make sure of it.”
