The auditorium was dead silent. Lily let go of Ethan’s hand and walked alone toward the massive, intimidating concert grand piano on the stage. She looked so small, almost swallowed by the magnitude of the instrument.
She climbed onto the bench. She didn't look at the judges. She looked back at Ethan and Sarah, standing by the doors. Ethan gave her that same reassuring nod he had given her on her very first day.
Lily closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and began to play Chopin’s Nocturne in E-flat Major.
