Chapter 5: The Trap Closes

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom clicked shut as the panicked board members fled the room, leaving Richard Vance slumped in his leather chair like a deflated balloon. His manicured hands trembled as he stared at the photocopied documents scattered across the glass table. The illusion of absolute control that he had cultivated for decades had evaporated in less than five minutes. He looked up at Julian, who stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the ant-like movement of traffic far below.

"Where did you get these?" Vance whispered, his voice cracking with panic and suppressed fury. "Chen is dead—or he should be. That old fool was supposed to have been taken care of years ago."

Julian turned slowly, his hands resting casually in his trouser pockets. "Master Chen is very much alive, Richard. And he remembers every single detail of the night you tried to murder my father. You thought you could bury the past under layers of shell companies and corporate restructuring. But some things leave scars that never fade." Julian reached out and touched his own chest, feeling the phantom weight of the silver crescent moon beneath his shirt.

Vance forced himself to stand up, attempting to regain a shred of his former dignity. He adjusted his tie with shaking fingers, his eyes narrowing into venomous slits. "You think you can destroy me, boy? You think the board will back you over me? I built this empire with my own hands. If I go down, I will take every single asset your family ever owned right down into the dirt with me. You’ll be ruined before the market opens tomorrow."

"You already destroyed my family, Richard," Julian replied, stepping closer until he towered over the older man. "There is nothing left for you to take. The federal authorities already have copies of the ledger. By sunset, federal agents will be freezing every corporate account tied to your name. Your assets are seized, your board has turned on you, and your legacy is ashes."

Before Vance could lunge forward in desperation, the double doors of the boardroom flew open. Two federal marshals in dark tactical vests stepped into the room, flanked by Master Chen. Vance froze, his eyes widening in sheer terror as the cold metal of handcuffs was clamped around his wrists. He was led away in silence, his head bowed, the once-feared titan of industry reduced to a broken old man shuffling toward his inevitable doom.

Chen walked slowly over to Julian, stopping a few feet away. The older man looked exhausted, the adrenaline of the confrontation finally draining from his frail frame. "It is finished," Chen murmured, his voice laced with profound relief.

Julian looked down at the silver necklace in his hand. The metal felt warm against his palm, no longer a heavy burden of sorrow, but a beacon of truth. "No, Master Chen," Julian said softly, looking out at the sprawling city beneath the breaking clouds. "It’s just beginning."
