Chapter 11: The Digital Strike

Inside the dim, salt-crusted control room of the abandoned freighter, the hum of an emergency generator flickered to life, casting a sickly yellow glow over banks of dead instrument panels. Julian connected the glass Zurich drive to an auxiliary terminal, his fingers flying across the dusty keyboard with practiced precision. Outside, the heavy metallic thuds of their pursuers trying to breach the security gate echoed through the hollow steel hull of the ship.

"Decoding sequence initiated," an automated synthesized voice chimed from the terminal speakers, followed by a scrolling cascade of green data cascading down the cracked monitor.

Julian glanced back at Master Chen, who was resting against a stack of rusted iron chains, his breathing shallow but steady. The makeshift bandage around Chen’s head had stanched the bleeding, but the toll of the pursuit was evident in the pale, ashen tint of his skin. "How much longer?" Chen asked quietly, wincing as another heavy blow rattled the exterior metal door of the cargo hold.

"Two minutes," Julian replied, his eyes locked on the progress bar creeping slowly across the screen. "Once this upload hits the international financial exchange servers, every shell company, every offshore account, and every politician bought by the Iron Lotus will be instantly frozen and flagged for federal seizure."

Suddenly, the steel door of the control room buckled inward with a deafening screech. A heavy iron crowbar tore through the center of the metal plate, followed by the sight of a black-suited operative widening the gap. They were out of time. Julian stood up, stepping in front of the terminal as the heavy door finally gave way, crashing inward with a cloud of ancient dust.

Two armed operatives stepped through the ruined doorway, their tactical rifles raised and aimed directly at Julian’s chest. The leader lowered his weapon slightly, a cruel smirk visible beneath his half-mask. "End of the line, boy. Hand over the drive, and maybe we make it quick for you and the old man."

Julian did not flinch. He kept one hand resting casually on the edge of the terminal console, watching the progress bar hit ninety-nine percent. "You’re about twenty seconds too late," Julian said coldly, a sharp smile touching the corners of his lips.

The leader’s eyes narrowed in sudden realization. He lunged forward, raising his rifle to fire, but before he could pull the trigger, the terminal speakers chimed with a crisp, triumphant tone. ‘Upload complete. Global transmission successful.’

Simultaneously, the tactical comms units on the operatives' chests began to crackle and shriek with frantic, overlapping panic as hundreds of encrypted alerts flooded their network from Zurich, New York, and Hong Kong. Their empire had just collapsed in a single digital heartbeat.
