Chapter 1: The Broken Banquet

The crystal chandeliers of the Grand Pavilion hummed with artificial brilliance, casting hard, unforgiving light over the celebration. Julian stood at the head table, his chest heaving inside the tight confinement of his bespoke black tuxedo. His bow tie felt like a tourniquet against his throat as he stared down at the chaos unfolding on the polished marble floor. Just seconds earlier, Master Chen had raised a simple white ceramic bowl to his lips, taking a slow, deliberate sip of the vintage rice wine as if the entire glittering room belonged to him alone. That single gesture had shattered the fragile peace of the evening.

Julian had reacted before reason could stop him. His shout of shock cut through the polite murmurs of the elite guests, and instantly, two heavy-set corporate security guards moved in with practiced brutality. They slammed Chen to his knees, their massive hands twisting his limbs with remorseless efficiency. One of the guards ripped open the older man’s plain gray shirt, exposing the frail, weathered skin beneath. Julian’s breath caught in his throat. Right there, stark and unmistakable against the center of Chen’s chest, was a jagged, circular scar shaped precisely like a half-moon.

With trembling fingers, Julian reached inside his own tuxedo vest. He pulled out the heavy silver chain he had worn against his heart every single day since childhood. Dangling from the end was a crescent moon necklace, a family heirloom passed down by a father who had vanished twenty years ago under mysterious circumstances. Julian brought the silver pendant down, holding it inches away from Chen’s exposed chest. The metal matched the ancient scar with terrifying precision. It was not a coincidence. It was a brand.

The silence in the grand hall became absolute. Every eye was locked on the young billionaire and the elderly kneeling man. Julian’s mind raced through a labyrinth of forgotten memories, whispered warnings from his mother, and the corporate empire built on a foundation he had always suspected was rotten. Chen did not flinch. He simply raised his head, his graying hair falling across a forehead lined with decades of hidden burdens. In his dark eyes, there was no fear, only a profound, heartbreaking fatigue.

"Where did you get this?" Julian demanded, his voice cracking with a vulnerability he usually kept hidden behind cold boardrooms. The guards held firm, pinning Chen against the cold stone. The white ceramic bowl lay shattered nearby, a spreading pool of dark liquid resembling spilled blood. Julian knew that nothing would ever be the same. The life he thought he owned was built on a lie, and the key to his past was kneeling right in front of him in the dust.
