Chapter 9: The Plan of Action

Julian walked over to the large oak table in the center of the command room, where Elena had projected a three-dimensional holographic map of Arthur Sterling’s downtown corporate headquarters. The fifty-story glass tower stood like a monolith against the digital grid, its security nodes glowing with red and yellow warning indicators.

"If Sterling knows we have the ledger, and Marcus Cole is running his security," Julian said, his voice level and devoid of hesitation, "they won't wait for us to make the first move. They’ll try to consolidate their digital assets, wipe their off-site servers, and flee the jurisdiction within the next twelve hours."

Clara stepped closer to the table, resting her hands on the edge. Her initial fear had entirely transformed into a sharp, analytical focus. "They have three off-site backup nodes," she pointed out, tracing her finger across the holographic projection. "One is in the main basement server room of the tower. The other two are encrypted cold-storage vaults hidden in abandoned subway tunnels beneath the financial district."

"If we hit all three nodes simultaneously," Elena added, typing a rapid sequence to simulate the network load, "we can force their entire system into a hard lockout. Once the system locks, they won't be able to transfer funds or wipe the primary ledger we need for the federal indictment."

"And Marcus Cole?" Julian asked, his eyes narrowing.

"Marcus will be wherever the central server is housed," Elena replied quietly. "He’s arrogant. He won't trust an underling to protect his exit strategy."

Julian nodded once. "Then we divide our forces. Samuel and Elena will manage the remote cyber-lockout from here. Clara, you’ll stay in the safehouse with Lily until the transmission clears to the Attorney General's office."

"No," Clara interrupted, her voice ringing out with absolute clarity. She looked directly into Julian’s eyes, refusing to back down. "I am not hiding while you walk into a war zone. I built this audit, I tracked those accounts, and I know the architecture of their internal network better than anyone else here. You need someone who can bypass their secondary firewall from the inside, not just from a remote terminal."

Julian studied her for a long, silent moment. He saw the same fierce resolve in her dark eyes that he had felt burning inside himself for twenty years. There was no argument that could sway her, and deep down, Julian knew she was right.

"Alright," Julian conceded softly. "You come with me. But you stick to my shoulder every second. No exceptions."
