Chapter 11

The server room was bathed in the red glow of emergency status lights, the air thick with the smell of overheated electronics and cold ozone. Rows of black server racks hummed relentlessly in the darkness. Standing in the center of the room, leaning casually against the main control console, was a tall, muscular man with short hair and a jagged scar running from his left ear down to his jawline.
Marcus Cole smiled, his gray eyes gleaming with dark amusement. He wore a black tactical vest over a dark gray shirt, a sidearm holstered securely at his hip.
"Well, well, Julian," Marcus said, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. "I wondered when you’d finally crawl out of the woodwork. Fifteen years is a long time to hold a grudge, isn't it?"
Julian stepped fully into the room, his weapon raised and aimed squarely at Marcus’s chest. The air between them crackled with two decades of accumulated vengeance. Clara slipped quietly into the room behind Julian, her laptop open as she immediately connected to the nearest local terminal to begin the data lockout sequence.
"You should have stayed dead, Marcus," Julian said, his voice dangerously low, restrained by an immense reservoir of discipline. "You killed my family for a paycheck. And today, you tried to kill an innocent mother and her little child."
Marcus chuckled, a dark, throaty sound. "Collateral damage, Julian. Just like your wife and daughter were back then. Power requires sacrifice. You never understood that. You let sentimentality make you weak."
Before Marcus could finish his sentence, Julian moved with blinding speed, closing the distance between them while firing two warning shots that shattered the server casing beside Marcus’s head. Marcus reacted instantly, drawing his sidearm and diving behind a heavy server rack as a volley of bullets ricocheted off the metal enclosure.
"Clara! Execute the lockout now!" Julian shouted over the din of the alarms.
May you like
"Executing!" Clara yelled back, her fingers flying across her keyboard as the red lights on the main console flickered, turning a solid, immutable blue.
Marcus lunged from behind the server rack, tackling Julian to the concrete floor in a brutal, desperate struggle for survival. The two men rolled across the dusty tiles, punches thrown with lethal intent, the sound of tearing fabric and heavy impacts filling the server room.
