Chapter 11: The Fall of the House

Before Arthur could lunge toward the desk to grab the briefcase, the heavy front doors opened again, but this time, the visitors were not desperate fugitives. Two federal marshals, accompanied by a state investigator and local law enforcement, stepped into the grand foyer. Their heavy boots clicked rhythmically against the marble floor as they walked directly toward the study. The lead investigator stopped at the open doorway, flashing a badge with quiet authority. "Arthur Sterling? Eleanor Sterling? Victoria Vance?" the investigator asked, his voice echoing in the tense silence. "You are named in multiple federal indictments for corporate fraud, asset concealment, and conspiracy." Eleanor staggered backward, her manicured hands flying to her mouth as the reality of her downfall crashed down upon her. She looked at Harrison with eyes full of pure venom, realizing that her decades of manipulation had finally reached their absolute end. Arthur stood paralyzed, his eyes locked on the silver handcuffs dangling from the marshal’s belt, unable to form a single coherent thought. Victoria clutched her handbag tightly, her knees trembling as she realized there were no more escape routes left to run. Harrison gestured calmly toward the leather briefcase resting on his desk. "Everything you need is right here, officers," Harrison said evenly. "Every fraudulent loan, every shell company, every piece of evidence required to prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law." The marshals moved in with practiced efficiency. Arthur offered no physical resistance, his shoulders slumping in total defeat as the cold steel cuffs snapped around his wrists with a sharp, definitive click. Eleanor screamed curses as she was guided toward the exit, her once-impeccable social standing disintegrating into a public spectacle of greed and corruption. Victoria followed quietly, keeping her head down to avoid the gaze of the staff who had gathered in the hallway to watch the downfall of their former oppressors. Lily stood by the window, watching the police cruisers parked outside with their flashing blue and red lights painting the facade of the mansion. The nightmare was finally over.
